The location inside the historic Sassi district makes it easy to explore Matera on foot, though there are plenty of stairs and uneven paths. The rooms have an authentic cave feel, carved into stone, and no windows. Parking takes some planning: reserve a paid spot outside the old town zone, and they can help with the shuttle and parking. Breakfast was excellent. Our room, though, was very humid, and the air conditioning wasn't working.

Parts of No Time To Die and The Passion of the Christ were filmed here. We had a great stay, with very friendly, accommodating staff. The water pressure was outstanding, and the instant hot water was among the best we've experienced abroad. A great place to stay when visiting Matera.

The only comfortable thing was the bed. For 300 euro a night, we got a small room with no windows, daylight, or fresh air, and only very basic amenities. It was under a smoker's terrace by the road. They called it a "cave room," but it felt like a dark basement room, with none of the cave experience. So disappointing. I would not recommend it.

The indoor spa and pool area were a nice way to relax, and the location near the Sassi is superb. The rooms are stylish, many with a cave setting, though a few are a bit compact. Parking is limited. Still, we had a great stay in the heart of Matera and found it excellent value overall.

The breakfasts were a treat, with lots of sweet and savory choices and live piano music. There are also plenty of lovely restaurants within an easy walk. A refined but still rustic hotel, and a lovely place to stay.
