Residence Le Vie Del Mosto

Finding the place at first can be tricky because of the historic layout of Sassi, but that’s part of its charm. After exploring a bit, getting around becomes second nature. The views from our room were incredible, and we had a great stay in the heart of Sassi di Matera. Maria Luisa was so lovely. She sent the essentials over Whatsapp before we even got on the train, and made sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast was all about quality rather than lots of choices: the espresso was excellent, and the pistachio croissant is a must. If you’re visiting Matera, I’d recommend staying overnight instead of trying to fit everything into a day trip. This was a wonderful place to do that.

The place itself was very nice, and the view was lovely. The rest of the staff were great and so kind to us, and we had a lovely experience with them. I don’t think the host, Irene i think, was very helpful. It felt like we were bothering her when we asked questions. She wouldn’t help me order a taxi, and when I asked how to get to Araberello, she didn’t give advice. I asked again the next day for help getting there and an idea of the price, but she just sent me the taxi number. That made us feel unwelcome asking for help, so I’d give 4/5 rather than 5/5.

The place was really clean and nice to stay in. It’s well located, and the staff helped us a lot with finding our way there, which was useful in Matera.

The room felt a little dated, but it was okay. The location was great, and the balcony had a lovely view.
