Giacomo was a wonderful host, and the rooms were great. Staying right in the middle of the Sassi was amazing. He also has a parking arrangement in the newer part of town, so use it if you're driving. We stayed in June 2025, and if I return to Matera, his place will be the first one I try to book. Thank you, Giacomo.

Giacomo, the owner, is lovely, kind, and very helpful. We booked all three rooms for three nights. Two were caves with beautiful designs, big baths, and two toilets. The third room was upstairs and had a huge balcony with the best views of Matera. The place is lovely and new. Booking directly with him was easy, and he's responsive and trustworthy.

Giacomo kept in touch on WhatsApp and sent us parking locations. When we couldn't find a free space, he came to help us look, then drove us and our luggage to the hotel. He did the same when we checked out. The staff were wonderful, and the location was perfect: quiet, but within walking distance of everything. The Sassi is a must-see! We stayed in the family room with the shower/bath cistern. Both beds were comfortable, and there was plenty of room, plus a cute covered outdoor patio. The room and bathroom were beautiful and clean, with white walls and limestone rock. Giacomo used to be a sculptor and worked on Sassi renovations, and he'd also done the work in the hotel. For parking in town, blue lines mean paid hourly spaces, yellow lines are reserved or permit-only, and white lines or no lines mean free. Watch for signs marking accessible and loading spaces.

The breakfast was very Italian, though it could be improved a bit. The rooms are chic and thoughtfully designed, and sleeping in a cave was a special experience. The bathroom reminded me of Berlusconi's “Grotta”. Giacomo was terrific, always ready to help with questions, and helped us find parking. He also drove us back and forth. A perfect place to spend the night, with a very nice host.
