We’ve spent the last 10 days traveling around Italy, including Rome, the Amalfi Coast, Positano, Sorrento, Salerno, Castellabate, and Agropoli. The best carbonara of our whole trip was here in Melfi at Novecento, truly outstanding. The prices were incredibly reasonable too. My husband and I highly recommend stopping here if you’re anywhere near Melfi.

I booked a room, but when I arrived at reception, they saw I was Black and bluntly said they had no reservation under my name. So why did I get a confirmation email from the hotel? I paid 122+22€ in tax and was treated in a humiliating way. The man then told us all their rooms were full, even though I hadn’t asked. That made me feel they simply didn’t want me and my boyfriend there, who is also Black. As we left, a couple of people outside were literally laughing, and the men said, “eh mi dispiace.” I don’t know why people think being Black is a bad thing. I was treated like a child yesterday, and I still didn’t get my money back because they said they couldn’t find a room booked by me.
