Luxury Apartment Mulino

During our November 3rd-5th stay, loud renovation work at the neighboring savings bank began at 7:00 a.m. We were woken by jackhammers and stones or concrete blocks dropping into trucks. We were disappointed not to have been told about this beforehand, and the landlord's reply was very terse. Without that construction noise, this would certainly be a good choice for a short trip. The apartment is in a great spot in the pedestrian zone, and check-in itself was easy. The booking portal asked what time we planned to arrive, but only gave the general note that check-in is usually possible from 4:00 p.m. We never got a reply to our suggested time of about 2:30 p.m. The apartment was furnished as expected. The bathroom still lacks shelves, an issue mentioned in earlier reviews, and we couldn't tell whether the wobbly breakfast bar stools were meant to be that way or were just worn out. The sauna at the edge of the living area takes some getting used to, though it is practical.

The apartment on the 4th floor was modern, well furnished, and in a great spot right in the heart of Merano. Handover went smoothly as described. But our written request for an earlier handover got no reply, and the apartment wasn't clean. Earlier reviews had mentioned the same thing, so we expected it to have been dealt with. It still felt dingy. There is air conditioning, but it didn't work properly in 33-degree heat. Someone called to ask if everything was all right, which was nice, but nothing came of it. There’s no parking, so you have to use a nearby underground garage for €18 a day. We wouldn't recommend it; there are better options.

I live in the same building, so I can't comment on the apartments themselves. From what I've seen, the operators don't seem concerned about treating other tenants and owners with respect. The shared garbage room is left with bags and glass bottles, apparently because there is no designated bin. People also regularly put their trash in other residents' bins without permission. That doesn't fit my idea of the sustainability they advertise. Complaints about property management are simply ignored.

Getting through to the support team was extremely difficult. The floor was so dirty we could only walk on it with shoes, and the windows were filthy, perhaps blamed on the construction site across the street. The room was large, but had a small double bed and only a half-sized wardrobe for two. The furniture looked good in photos but was cheap and uncomfortable. There was almost nowhere to put anything: just a tiny table and small dining area, which was completely taken up by two laptops. Oversized lamps used up nearly all the bedside shelf space. The roughly 60x60 cm dining spot was attached to a tall cabinet in the darkest part of the room, with no light. Eating there meant sitting beside a disgusting dirty wall on wobbly, dangerously unstable bar stools. The bathroom was awful. Even being careful in the shower, the design flaw we had noticed beforehand meant about 70 percent of the floor got flooded. There were no hooks or shelves for towels, robes, or toiletries. Staying here felt practically impossible without camping gear. The sink faucet had 2-3 cm of play and the sink wobbled; after we reported both to the “support team,” nothing was done. The TV had no German-language channels, not even Swiss or Austrian ones, and felt like something from Italy around 1990. Despite ample space, it was positioned so the window curtain partly covered the screen. There was no safe, though the listing hadn't mentioned that. The otherwise detailed and helpful waste-sorting instructions were useless because all the bins had identical markings. The central location was spoiled by the extensive, long-running construction across the street. At exactly 7:00 a.m., even on Saturdays, demolition noise replaced our alarm. We decided not to use the whirlpool tub, which had been a key reason we booked, because of the staff's reluctance. We seriously thought about moving to a nearby hotel we knew, but it only had a room for one night. We won't be staying at this hotel again on future visits to Merano.
