Apart Hotel Porta Nuova

The room was clean and tidy, but staying here felt strange and not pleasant at all. There’s no reception in the evenings or mornings, and I checked in and out without seeing any staff or other guests. Instead, you get a weird WhatsApp message with video instructions for hidden keys and codes. It felt more like an escape room than a hotel.

We had a comfortable, reasonably spacious apartment and found it good value for a short stay. The location was hard to figure out too, tucked inside an office block without proper signs. I’d probably stay again. I’d missed the two-single-bed option when booking and chose a double. When we saw a sofa bed, I assumed it would be fine to use, but it seemed broken when we tried to pull it out. We were told there was an extra charge and that we should have booked it. That seemed petty, though a staff member came straight over and kindly changed the double bedding to two singles.

The owner or manager kept contacting us all afternoon and evening, asking for documents, money, and city tax. Those were things the non-working reception should have handled, and we’d already said we would pay the next day because they accepted only cash and we had cards. I never got a receipt. They even threatened to notify the police. If you want a stressful day, I recommend Aparthitel porta nuova! When we arrived, reception wasn’t working and the room cleaner was there to check us in. She said the city tax had to be paid in cash, and didn’t ask for any documents as usually happens at check-in. The room had separate beds even though the reservation was for a double, and it lacked the basic accessories we needed, like slippers and a toothbrush.

The rooms aren’t very soundproof, so noise from other guests can be a problem early or late in the day. It didn’t bother us much, but it’s something to keep in mind. The place was very clean and comfortable, with AC and easy entry and exit for exploring the city. There are metro and transport options nearby, along with lots of markets and restaurants. Service was good, and parking is available for a little extra. It was a great stay. A bit hard to find at first, but I’d highly recommend it.
