Atmos Luxe Navigli Hostel & Rooms

My delayed flight meant I expected to reach Milan around 7am. I messaged the owner at 7pm and again at 9pm when I didn’t get a reply, to let them know. When I arrived and asked to check in, he started shouting straight away, even though I’d told him about the delay 12 hours earlier. He also made racist comments and threatened to throw me out onto the street, despite having been paid for a night I DIDN’T SPEND there. He went back to sleep and left me waiting at reception until 10. About 15 minutes later, he got a call, came back yelling at me, and accused me of calling to disturb him. When he realized it wasn’t me, he agreed to give me a “special” check-in. I’ve stayed in plenty of hostels, hotels, and Airbnbs. Sometimes the service hasn’t been great, but at least the staff made up for it. Reading other bad reviews, I can see my awful encounter with the owner may be a pattern. I expect he’ll call me ungrateful and start attacking me, but I don’t care. I witnessed his temper firsthand. The least I can say is that he shouldn’t be in this line of work if he doesn’t know how to treat guests.

It was easy to park near the hostel, and the host, Douglas Poole, was kind and polite. Even though it was New Year’s Eve and we hadn’t booked ahead, he went out of his way to fit us in and told us about nearby sights.

I only stayed one night at Atmos Luxe Navigli, but it was a really good experience. The 8-bed women’s dorm was clean and comfortable, with its own bathroom, and there was another women’s bathroom just outside, which was handy. Check-in and check-out were easy, and the owner and a staff member were so kind that they even helped me fix my broken suitcase. There’s a kitchen with everything you need, a lounge, and an elevator that’s useful with luggage. The neighborhood felt safe, next to a park and near transit and grocery stores. I’d definitely recommend staying here :)

It was one of the best hostel stays we’ve had. My sister and I were out sightseeing all day and just wanted somewhere to sleep, so the quiet, small place suited us perfectly. We’d chosen it because it was the cheapest option on Booking with women-only dorms, and honestly hadn’t expected much. It turned out to be clean, safe, and cozy, almost like home. It’s not the newest place, though. Our beds had no outlets nearby, and little privacy curtains on the beds would be a good addition. There is a kitchen, even though Booking doesn’t mention it. We stayed for 3 nights. The owners are an older couple who live there, though I only met the man. He was respectful and gave us directions to our room, knocking before we went in. Later, he asked how we liked Milan and told us about the nearby park and canal, which aren’t very popular spots. I liked those conversations. I’ve read about other people having bad experiences, and I understand things can vary, but our stay was really lovely. Very recommended!
