We travel often and have never encountered such unprofessional behavior in hospitality. The male owner came over aggressively when I politely asked housekeeping for clean sheets so I could change them myself. He said, “I am the boss, you must tell me,” and escalated things unnecessarily. A lady, likely the other owner, then scolded us and said we couldn’t change sheets every day. I explained they were already dirty when we arrived and asked her to calm down, but both owners spoke loudly and were very rude. The bedsheets were dirty on arrival. A very disappointing stay in Milan. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

I opened the previous review and completely agree. They don’t deserve even their first star. I admit my biggest mistake was not noticing the ONE star in the title. I’m filing a large complaint with booking about this disastrous stay. There was no elevator, and we had to haul luggage up about 50 sharp, narrow stairs. The room was crazy tiny, with almost no space left for three people after the three beds. The third bed was in a niche only 180 long, so your head and toes touched the walls. Nothing worked properly: the conditioner, hairdryer, and electric kettle were all broken. The receptionist tried to teach me how to use the kettle before replacing it. There was no heat at night. The receptionist said they don’t run heating from 1 am to 5 AM, but I could enjoy it at other times. When I said I didn’t need it during the day because I’d be away, he told me I could complain to police if I didn’t like it, then made provocative comments that he was the boss and I could move outside. With no air in the room because the conditioner was broken, I had to open the door to the corridor. The staff were rude, unhelpful, pushy, spoke really poor English, and kept making provocative comments and jokes, insisting it was my problem if I didn’t like anything. It was a disaster.

I was shouted at and belittled, and the staff were the rudest I’ve met in hundreds of hotel stays around the world. The soundproofing is poor: you hear rattling and noise from a room, most likely a kitchen where staff hang out, along with a constant food smell from there. There was one coffee pod and one tea bag for the double room. I understand the booking was for single occupancy, but still. There was no hot water in the morning. The lack of an elevator and the steep stairs are the least of the problems. DO NOT STAY THERE.

The rooms were comfortable and reasonably priced, and the front desk staff were really helpful. Hotel Repubblica is super close to the metro and conveniently located for exploring popular attractions. There’s no lobby, which is the only downside. We spent the last two days there and had a great stay. The rooms were nice and it’s a cozy, welcoming place for travelers.
