Hotel Berna

It was a clean, pretty standard budget hotel. Be aware that every person staying in the room needs physical identification, though the booking confirmation didn’t make that clear. The concierge also mentioned that breakfast was available in the morning without saying it cost extra. It’s $15 per person, and we only found out once we were already eating. Worth knowing in advance.

I was pleasantly surprised by the food, with plenty of tasty choices at breakfast and a generous selection of snacks at happy hour. The staff were attentive throughout, and the rooms were cool and spacious.

The staff were slow to reply through the Booking app, and when the room became available they didn’t let us know. Instead, we were told to wait or call to check. Still, we had a good stay, and being just steps from Milano Centrale made getting around very convenient.

The buffet breakfast at Berna was the best I’ve ever seen: quiche, all kinds of tortes, cheeses, meats, fruit, yogurt, delicious coffee, and gluten-free bread if you ask. The concierge was so kind and welcoming, and they kept our bags in a locked room for the day so we could enjoy Milan without carrying them. The hotel is only a 3-5 minute walk from Milano Centrale. There’s classic old-world charm in the wood paneling, stained glass, tall ceilings, and big room windows. Some things feel a little dated, but the amenities worked, including the hot tub jets, and it was great value for the money. Fantastic stay, I’d recommend it to anyone looking in this area.
