Hotel Calypso

The street by the main train station was extremely noisy, with lots of random people around. I didn't feel comfortable walking there alone. The hotel itself was old and poorly maintained. When I asked about the room amenities and whether I could extend my stay, the staff were incredibly rude. They nearly shouted at me when I said I was disappointed. It felt like I had to beg the king just to get basic service. I wouldn't recommend it, though perhaps guests aren't meant to expect much from a low-star hotel. I'm not sure.

For a one-star hotel, the value for money is spot on. We had no problems with the room, and the staff were nice and professional, if not especially chatty. The room was big and spacious, with a large, clean bathroom that was comfortable to use. They even provided tea and coffee, which was a nice touch for a place that isn't meant to offer many amenities. The location is pretty ideal, around an eight-minute walk to Milan Central Station and near a metro stop and tram. I honestly don't know what the negative reviews were about. Highly recommended.

Our flight was delayed, so I called reception about our reservation. The man said he'd wait until 1 a.m. for an extra €50. I agreed, even though I thought it was absurd, but warned him we might not arrive by then if the delay got worse, perhaps closer to 1:30. He insisted that he wouldn't wait past 1 a.m. I told him I understood, but couldn't control the flight time. He then made us cancel that same day, saying he'd leave us on the street. He shouted on the phone and was genuinely heartless. He even told us to change our flight, very aggressively. This hotel shouldn't be operating, and I hope it gets shut down.

We were satisfied with our four-day stay at Hotel Calypso. It's a dependable, comfortable and laid-back place, and it suited us because we only needed somewhere to sleep. There's hot water, room cleaning, free Wi-Fi and clean towels. It's basic accommodation without anything beyond the essentials, so it works well if you're not expecting luxury.
