Getting around was easy, with metro and tram stops very close, and there’s a really good pizza restaurant next to the hotel. The building itself is very old and below the usual standard for the Accord Group. There was no soap or shampoo in the rooms, and they still hadn't been replenished after we asked several times.

We were only in the city for one night. The tram went straight to the Duomo in 20 minutes, and the metro station was a 7-minute walk away. The rooms are a bit small, even by Mercure standards, but functional. We liked the quieter back side of the hotel and had a small balcony. The wooden floors in the shower were nice, though the water pressure could use some work. The bartender was lovely. There’s indoor seating at the bar, but we’d definitely suggest sitting outside. For a room rate of over 250 euros a night, you'd think even basic slippers would be provided. Instead, there's some odd “eco” initiative and guests are apparently meant to bring their own. The bed and pillows were terrible, and the air conditioning was so loud that opening the window was actually more comfortable. Checkout at 10 AM also feels too early. Everything seemed fine at first glance, but the hotel badly needs renovation and doesn't really feel like a 4-star place. I stay at Accor hotels 3-4 times a year, and this was by far my worst experience there.

The lift is tiny. Two people can barely squeeze in without luggage, and it could be a problem for anyone with claustrophobia. The room was also far too hot, and there was no way to change the heating. I left the window open but still couldn't sleep all night, then woke up exhausted with a headache. The hotel doesn't make its checkout time clear. Since they say breakfast runs until 11, we were ready to leave at 11, but at 10:55 the cleaning lady came in, was impolite and bold, and threatened that we'd have to pay for an extra hour. For 250 euro a night, this place isn't up to standard, and I've never been treated like that for the fairly high price I paid.
