Mio Hostel

The location worked perfectly for getting around, with the metro and regional railway station nearby. From there, it was easy to reach trains to many places in Italy and Milan’s main sights. I spent a week at the hostel and had a perfect experience. The rooms were big and clean, the beds comfortable, and there was a friendly, social atmosphere among the guests. The owner and staff are focused on guest satisfaction and available whenever you need help. I’d happily come back.

We’d read the reviews and expected the worst, but the hostel was decent. We arrived several hours before check-in, and the staff let us rest in the common area. We were grateful, and they also let us check in early. Getting to the station was convenient since the hostel wasn’t far away. Our six-person room was okay. They provided a piece of fabric we could hang as a curtain, and the bed, toilet, and facilities were fine. The bed and pillow were clean and had no smell. The lockers don’t have locks, so I’d bring a small one. Someone in our room used my friend’s shoes and even went out wearing them. We dealt with it, but keep your belongings separate and bring a lock. We didn’t mention it at reception.

We had a private room with a shared bathroom. The room was good, the nearby bathrooms were nice, and the desk is open 24 hours. The location is alright, though downtown isn’t really walkable. Tram lines will take you right there. Noise was the big problem. The whole place is loud, even in a private room. People slammed doors and yelled in the halls in the evening and late into the night. Our windows faced the hostel square, and we could hear all the chatter and phones ringing even with them closed. One night a man yelled loudly until about 1 am. Bring earplugs if you want to sleep.

I was there for three nights, basically just to sleep, and I wouldn’t go back. The shared area felt dated and wasn’t in a good spot. My roommates may have been from the Middle East. They seemed to wash with water from the toilet sink, leaving the floor wet and dirty, and kept clearing their throats and noses through the night, which made it hard to rest. At least there was a curtain, which I appreciated.
