Old Milano House - Hostel

We arrived for our confirmed one-night stay only to be told the reservation had been cancelled. Neither the hostel nor Hostelworld had contacted us beforehand about a cancellation or a payment issue. They said there was a problem with my credit card, but we had never been notified of that. The staff treated us rudely, and when we were distressed and left without accommodation, their response was not helpful. The whole situation was handled unprofessionally. The hostel and booking platform need to communicate clearly with customers to prevent this kind of frustrating experience. Based on the poor service and communication, I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The rooms, beds, mattresses, lockers, and bathroom were all in poor condition and badly neglected. They also charge extra for air conditioning and towels, and the place is very expensive for what it offers. Staff seemed moody. It was hard to find, with poor signs and a scary approach. The area at night wasn’t pleasant either. There’s no room key: you can simply open the door and walk in, which left me feeling there was no security at all. This hostel was nothing like what I expected from its presentation. If I’d known what it was really like, I never would have booked. Don’t go.

I can’t understand how this place has an average rating above 4. The beds were packed together, so getting a decent night’s sleep was impossible, and check-in dragged on with endless paperwork. The building was old and dirty, with stains on the floors and walls, and hygiene seemed like an afterthought. I even hesitated to drink the tap water late at night because of the general cleanliness. I’ve never come across a worse hostel. Milan has better options, so spare yourself the regret and stay elsewhere.

The reception staff were great, and I really liked the room. It’s also excellent value for money. The hostel is well placed for walking to the main tourist sights, with two metro lines nearby linking to Milan’s main train stations and the bus station.
