Fenice Hotel Milan

The room was pleasant, though noise from the hallway came through and made it hard to sleep in. The shower was a bit cramped, and the fridge wasn't very cold. Getting around was easy by foot or subway, with cafés, plenty of places to eat, and a supermarket nearby. Staff were friendly and spoke English. There's also a bar and a decent breakfast area.

Breakfast was fine for what it was, but the choices were limited and stayed the same each day. The staff were pleasant and professional. The location is hard to beat. My room was small but practical, the bathroom tiny, and the shower could use some maintenance. Everything was clean.

We only ended up here because of a problem at another hotel, but were glad we moved. The service was lovely, and our basic room was clean and comfortable with enough space for three. Breakfast was included and had a good range of choices. In Milan's heat, the air conditioning worked well. We were about a 15-20 minute walk from the Duomo and similar sights, with plenty of restaurants and a supermarket around 150 metres up the street. I'd stay again and recommend it.

The metro and S line were close by, which made getting around easy. Staff were friendly and did their best to answer our questions in English. Breakfast was a standard American continental spread, with fresh pastries each day, and it was a nice little extra for the price. Our room matched the listed size, the beds were comfortable, and the towels, bedding, and basic soap were clean. We knew it was a three-star place and kept our expectations modest. Still, for three nights we got just three paper cups, with no replacements, no tissues, and no coffee maker, despite daily room service. The toilet paper holder was right beside the bathtub, so water from the shower splashed onto the paper; we had to move it to keep it dry. We left our room key behind as other reviews had suggested, but kept our bags locked and didn't use the safe. You get what you pay for. For a nicer option in the same area, there's a hotel around the corner that costs more than twice as much per night.
