Hotel San Geminiano

I had a good one-night stay in a single room. The bed was very comfortable, and the room was clean, with a TV, private washroom and balcony, plus an extra pillow and blanket. Towels, bar soap and shampoo were provided. Check-in was quick and easy, and the man at reception was kind and helpful. The location is ideal, close to the city centre and within an easy walk of the station. Since it's an old hotel, the room and blankets are dated. Sound carries too, so I could hear neighbours talking down the hall and people walking in the corridors in the morning. Not a place for sleeping in.

The staff were friendly, and the location was handy, right beside a lovely pizzeria. It's about a 20-minute walk from the station and the far side of the old town. The rooms were comfortable but plain. The washroom was shared with our neighbours, though having a sink in the room was much appreciated. For €5, breakfast offered more than the usual espresso and cornetto, and was handy for an early start.

We had a great stay. The room was clean and really spacious, and the owner was friendly and helpful. The hotel sits in a quiet residential area, very close to the old town but away from the bustle. I'd highly recommend it.

The managers and staff were professional and friendly. Breakfast is available as an add-on, but we chose a quick, delicious espresso macchiato on our way out. The hotel is a short 15-minute walk from Modena city center, and we enjoyed browsing the stores, bottegas, and cafes on the way to the Duomo. Rooms have the basics, including soap, towels, and a TV, and I was glad to have air conditioning, which you can't take for granted in Italy. Just be aware that the windows and balcony door don't have screens, so bugs or mosquitos may be an issue, especially around grape harvest season.
