Hotel Savona

The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were poor, and the shower was almost unusable. The towels were like kitchen rags. Our room felt old-fashioned and cramped, with old furniture and a tiny TV, and it wasn’t very clean when we arrived. The walls are thin, so you hear everything. Breakfast and dinner weren’t anything special. It’s okay if you just need somewhere to sleep, but I’d pick another hotel if you want to enjoy your stay there.

The location was pretty good, and some of the staff were kind and accommodating. Most of the stay, though, was a letdown. The food was maybe a 3/10, and the breakfast was inedible. The bread was so hard it cut my mother’s finger. On two of our four nights we were given the wrong food; most of it was unseasoned and, in my opinion, gross. The room had bugs in both the bedroom and bathroom, and I’m sure the beds had bugs too because I ended up covered in huge, nasty bites that weren’t mosquito bites. The AC barely worked. There were deep scuff marks all over the bedroom floor, and somehow the toilet was in the shower.

The breakfast works differently than you might expect. It isn’t a buffet where you can go back for more. Staff count the guests, and each person gets one croissant and one slice of ham and cheese. Those items sit on the buffet table but aren’t replenished, so get there early. We were told this was an “Italian-style breakfast.” The lobby and the outside have a pleasant turn-of-the-century look, but the rooms are worn and dated, with battered furniture, dirty walls, poor lighting and floors that didn’t seem to be cleaned regularly. The bathrooms were the worst part. Without shower enclosures, water splashes everywhere and leaves the floor wet and slippery for hours. The towels were so thin and useless they felt like kitchen cloths.

We had men's dirty underwear hanging from a chandelier in our first room. It was filthy, with towels and toiletries scattered around the bathroom. They did give us another room, but the toilet was inside the shower. I wouldn’t recommend it, and the food wasn’t good either.
