La Locanda di San Francesco

A small, lovely hotel with a wonderful view. The place was clean, the amenities were really nice, and we enjoyed both the good breakfast and the wine bar.

We weren't hotel guests, but eating at the wine bar made us want to consider staying here next time. We stopped for a snack and ordered the mixed Tagliere board for two. It was huge, with a great range of meat and cheese, and the caramelized onions were especially good. There were so many wines that our server helped us choose, and picked a great one from the region.

The wine came with a little something on the house, which we really appreciated since that doesn't happen everywhere. We also tried the vitello tonnato and cheese plate. Dinner at the bar, with the sunset in view, was a really nice experience. The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed or perhaps new, but everyone was friendly.

We had such a wonderful stay at Locanda San Francesco. The room was simple, spotless, and had thoughtful extras like slippers, an eye mask, a welcome bottle of wine, fresh water, and luxury bath products. The view from it was phenomenal, and breakfast was exceptional. The location is on a quiet piazza, close to everything we wanted to see in Montepulciano, and we enjoyed popping into the wine bar next door. Benedetta was kind, communicative, and helpful before and during our visit. She even helped us arrange a few local tours since our Italian isn't very good. Highly recommend, and thank you, Benedetta, for making it such a lovely experience!
