Villa Il Casone

Breakfast was poor, with little variety and what seemed like artificial milk and coffee. We missed the local cold cuts and bread, especially in a region where natural milk is so good. I don't think breakfast was worth it, or the stay overall. The hotel is very old and basic, with poor internet and TV, and no minibar in the rooms. The owner's behavior was the worst part. He interrupted us right as breakfast began to check our documents, then talked on the phone about Latinos being there and needing to check documents. I had already shown him that the documents were valid throughout Europe. Even after copying them, he kept acting suspicious and called the local police. He embarrassed us rudely in front of other guests for half an hour, despite my showing him information from reliable sites. It was unpleasant and disorganized, and he wasn't responsive. There are several doors you have to keep opening and closing to get in and out of the hotel and reach your room. During our stay that became impractical, since there was no alcohol anywhere and we had to keep touching different doors and handles. I would never go back.

The breakfast was excellent, and the location is handy for the Francigena trail. Try to get a room on the garden side.

We couldn't have asked for a better base for visiting Monteriggioni. Claudio and Susanna were excellent hosts, and the rooms were comfortable and spacious.

The breakfast was tasty, and the rooms were fairly spacious. A nice place to stop on the way from Siena to Firemze.
