The spa was my favorite part, though it has to be booked and paid for separately. After cycling 40 km around Barolo, it felt like a haven, with a hammam, Finnish sauna, whirlpool jet tub, appetizers, tea and coffee, music, a lounge chaise, and even a television. The property also has a saltwater pool and a terrace for sunbathing, with incredible views of the surroundings. Rocche di Montexelo is a quaint, beautiful place in a small village between Bra and Alba, just below the medieval Roero Castle. There are hiking routes nearby, and you can book a castle tour. Irene, the owner and hostess, was incredibly kind and attentive to my comfort and happiness. She gave me ideas for things to do and restaurants to try. Irene and her family are warm, genuinely love what they do, and didn't seem like the sort to take advantage of tourists. Breakfast is served in a cute kitchen, with everything prepared by Irene. The rooms are spacious, the bed is comfortable, and the kitchenette has what you need to cook for yourself on a longer stay. There's a delicious pizzeria five minutes away on foot, and another about 25 minutes away. I'd recommend renting a car to get around the Piedmont region. Public transport connects the towns, but it's a hassle and takes a long time. Parking is available. I'd recommend Rocche di Montexelo to families, couples, and solo travelers.

The room terrace has an amazing view, perfect for drinks before dinner. Irina was a great host, always available when we had requests before and during the trip. She also suggested good local restaurants and things to do with the kids.

Irene, the owner, was extremely kind and knowledgeable. She suggested lovely sights and historic places to visit, and where to find an excellent lunch or dinner. Our three days were full of relaxation, good food, and good wine. We stayed two nights in Monticello d'Alba, in a spotlessly clean, warm, comfortable room with thoughtful touches for guests. It had a mini kitchen with everything we needed, including a coffee maker, kettle, microwave, induction hob, and mini fridge. There's also a relaxing spa, which can be booked for three hours in one of three time slots. We chose 9:00 PM to midnight. Rocche di Montexelo is green in every way, from heating the rooms and spa by burning hazelnut shells instead of using gas, to using rainwater in the spa, rooms, and kitchen, and recycled paper. We had three hours of total relaxation in a spotless private spa, just for the two of us. The room was beautiful and clean, and smelled lovely. It was a special experience, and we'll be back soon.
