Appartamento Merliani

For €10, you get a pizza, a bowl of chips, and whatever drink you choose. That’s a surprisingly good deal, as long as you can put up with the smoking. There may have been only one table in the whole restaurant where people weren’t smoking.

We left with my little son after the man at the door came over, about 20 minutes later, and told us to pay and go because they needed the table. When I asked whether there was a time limit, he said there was one. It felt like that rule was being applied just to us because there were only two of us. Completely unacceptable. Don’t go.

The indoor garden has a distinctive feel, and the deal is great: €10 gets you a drink and one food item of your choice. Any drinks after that are €3 each, so you can have quite a lot without spending much. I’ll definitely come back!

The location is lovely, but I came away feeling like I’d wasted my money. The cocktails, including the Negroni and the one in the picture, were poor. The waiters were relentless, and apparently everyone at the table had to order a drink before we could even talk. We were also pushed to decide whether to get a pizza that nobody had asked for.
