Hotel Clarean

The air conditioning didn’t work, and the service overall was poor. The hotel also had very strange rules about payment: they accepted cards for some things but demanded cash for others, apparently so they wouldn’t have to give receipts. We were told to pay €31 in advance for an airport taxi. The driver later said that wasn’t allowed, that payment should go directly to him, and that he accepted cards. The actual fare was €21, so the hotel kept €10. The staff whispered and tried to hide the conversation, which made it seem like they knew exactly what they were doing. One staff member was clearly high and acting strangely. We felt deliberately scammed and manipulated. If I’d known before getting into the taxi, I would have called the police. I strongly advise avoiding this hotel if you want a safe and honest stay.

The room smelled strongly of smoke, wasn’t very clean, and got unbearably hot overnight because the AC barely worked, even though it was 30 degrees outside. The man we met at arrival was completely unhelpful. In the morning, we asked reception to book a taxi to the airport, and the receptionist demanded 31 euros in cash up front, which seemed strange. The taxi driver only received 21 euros in cash, the set fare from where we were staying, so the receptionist pocketed the other 10. I’ve never stayed at a more unserious, terrible hotel. The worst hotel visit I’ve had. Don’t go there.

We found the hotel secure, even though the area felt a bit dangerous. It’s close to the Main train station and works well for a couple of nights in Naples. The room was quite okay, though with the cheap fare a balcony will usually look out at something hairbrithing. It’s only five minutes from the walking starting point for the iconic neighbours and tourist attractions. Enough for a couple of days.

The room was dirty, disgusting, and had old furniture. Outside was extremely noisy, and I could clearly hear every conversation from people sitting at the coffee shop. The booking had a mistake: we’d reserved a double room for two nights, but it listed only one guest instead of two. When I asked what extra charge applied for the second person, the receptionist quoted 153e per night, an absurd amount for a *** hotel. We had to book another room at a different hotel for the second person. The next day I asked another receptionist what the extra charge would be, and he said 50e per night, a 100e difference from the first “offer.” Staff were very unprofessional. After I refused the 153e charge on the first night, he tried to convince me not to check in. When I complained the next day, nobody did anything. One of the worst experiences. It felt like they were trying to make illegal money from guests.
