Hotel Castel Latemar

Room 325 has a sloped section of roof that makes it really uncomfortable, so I'd avoid it. Apart from that, it's a very quiet place with very good service. The food is okay.

My mother and I went to the restaurant for a quick pizza dinner, and ended up leaving hungry after a wasted evening. We had to wait 20 minutes just for the waiter to take our order. After another 30 minutes, we asked about the food. He said, “it's coming,” but another 20 minutes passed and we decided to leave. We still had to pay for our drinks. After 1 hour and 10 minutes, the excuse was that our order had never reached the kitchen. If food hasn't arrived after 30 minutes, shouldn't the waiter check with the cooks? Meanwhile, tables seated after us were already getting food and dessert. Worst experience ever.

The spa and sauna are really nice, and the staff are helpful and friendly. The rooms are quite old, but functional and still pleasant. There's no kettle in the room, and it's a pity no one told us about the guest card before arrival or provided it when we booked.

The location is handy for the buses to and from Bolzano, nearby restaurants, and ski lifts like Paolina and Lauren. There is a restaurant in the hotel and three or four others around. Compared with other places nearby, the price is relatively good. The rooms are clean, the staff are friendly and speak three languages, and the hotel has breakfast, a spa, a billiard table, and a few nice terraces covered in snow. It's warm inside day and night. Still, it doesn't feel like a three-star experience. A few things make the stay less comfortable: there's no fridge or minibar, and no vending machine. The nearest market for snacks is 20 minutes away. There's no kettle, tea, coffee, or bottled water in the room either. The only kettle is in the spa. The TV has 12 local channels and isn't smart. Spa access is included, but slippers and a robe cost another €8 per person. There's no elevator. From the top floor, two floors above reception, it's four floors down and back to make tea in the spa, or three floors down and back to order at the bar if it's still open. There isn't a phone in the room to call reception, and breakfast is moderate. If you're young and expect to spend most of your time out, it's good value, especially if you bring slippers, a kettle, cup, tea, smart TV, and snacks. If you want comfort and a great hotel experience, you may be disappointed.
