Villa Grassina is up a hill, and the views are lovely once you get there. Getting there can be tricky, though: a taxi from Pontassieve train station is expensive, while the bus drops you on a road where you still need another ride. If you're driving, be ready for the climb.

We had pizza at the restaurant later on, and it was top notch. It made for a cheerful, sociable evening. Before that, we enjoyed a drink while looking out over the Tuscan countryside, with a fiery sunset and amazing views. The grounds and setting are beautiful.

The restaurant serves great food and is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The staff are very friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxed and family friendly. It's a beautiful old farmhouse, with its buildings turned into self service apartments, and they make their own olive oil.

The people working here are so nice and really helpful. It's super authentic, with an old farmhouse, a nice view, and a big pool out back. Just the kind of place if that's what you're after.
