The family running the place were so welcoming and helped whenever we needed something. The room was beautifully done, with every amenity we could think of, and breakfast was among the best we've had at any hotel in the world, cooked right in front of us. The setting is a beautiful 12th century castle in a dreamy, secluded part of the Val d'Orcia, five minutes from Bagno Vignoni and close to Siena, Pienza, and Montalcino. During our 11 days traveling around Tuscany, this was easily our favorite stay. I'd give it 100 out of 5 stars if I could. Five-star hotels should take note. If you're visiting the Val d'Orcia, stay here.

Cleanliness, the hosts, breakfast, parking, and the whole atmosphere were all 10/10. A unique experience, well worth trying. Skip the hotels and come here.

Of the 11 places we stayed during our 25 days in Italy, this one was the best, even though we enjoyed them all. The room was spacious, the sheets were amazing, and the bathroom had everything we needed. Breakfast was the best too. Spending four nights in a castle built in 1100, right in the middle of Tuscany's most beautiful area, was something else.

The garden behind the castle had sunbeds and chairs, a lovely spot to sip wine while watching the sunset. The staff were incredibly warm and helpful, and breakfast was amazing. We had a fantastic stay in this 800-year-old castle. Our rooms were clean and stocked with lots of personal care amenities.

Cristina was so kind and thoughtful, and made a killer omelette. Breakfast was incredible, and you could feel the care and effort behind it. Il Mastio is gorgeous, with the rooms and shared areas in amazing condition. The location is great too, less than a 30-minute drive from Pienza, Montepulciano, Monticello, and so many wineries in between.
