Hotel La Torre

I booked this place because it was near the train station, but I wouldn’t return. I’ve never stayed anywhere dirtier. There was hair all over the bed, and when I pulled back each layer of bedding, I kept finding more. I can’t believe anyone would leave it that way. At €130 a night, the least I expect is clean bedding. When I arrived, nobody was at reception, so I had to enter using a code that failed several times. Once inside, the hotel seemed empty. With no one around, I had to carry all my heavy luggage up the narrow stairs in several trips. I turned on the room ventilator, then realized after ten minutes that it was causing a horrible smell. If you go to Pisa, don’t stay here.

The single room was really spacious and the bed was comfortable. It’s a great location, just two minutes from the train station, and the staff are friendly. Breakfast is simple but enough to get the day started. There are no carpets on the floors, so you may hear chairs being moved in other rooms. If you’re checking in late, make sure your SIM card works, since you’ll need to call to get the code and room details.

The staff were friendly and very helpful, and we liked that our towels were changed every day. Breakfast was continental, with cheese, salami, ham, boiled eggs, butter, cereals, juices, and good Italian coffee. The room was dated but clean, and the air conditioning was quiet. It’s well placed near Pisa Centrale Station, a real plus if you’re planning to explore the surrounding area. For what you pay, the service is decent.

The shower and bathroom were the worst part of our stay. The shower was moldy and didn’t look as if it had been cleaned, and the shower cap was rusty and covered in limescale. For €199 for two nights, it was awful to be put in such a gross room. The stale air never cleared, even after I left the window open for a while, and it made me feel disgusted. The double room was tiny, with old furnishings and badly done wall paint that didn’t even match the ceiling. This is the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere better in Pisa. I bet it’ll be more pleasant.
