San Francesco Suite

The photos really don’t do this place justice. We stayed in September 2021 while walking the Via Francesco, and after hiking over the mountain it was just what we needed. It’s a beautiful, pristine place, and breakfast was wonderful. We enjoyed our stay very much and highly recommend it.

The continental breakfast was delicious, and we were given two very clean, recently remodeled rooms in a historic building. We’d reserved two rooms, but the lady manager had assigned us one. She doesn’t speak English, but understood us when we spoke slowly and was very helpful. The owner called the tour company to sort out the confusion. It’s a lovely B&B in the medieval town of Poggio Bustone.

The building has amazing architecture, traditional but stylish, and everything was very clean. We were the first guests at their Osteria and it was fantastic. After returning from the sea, we had two spare days and decided to head back to the mountains. Check-in and checkout were easy, the staff were friendly, and the Italian breakfast was delicious. Great location.

The Moorish-style room was charming, though very dim, and the bathroom mirror had a nice light. We stayed one night in early January; the room was cold and damp when we arrived, even though it was beginning to warm up. I’d suggest turning on the heating at least in the morning. There were no spare blankets in the closet, so ask when booking if you’re coming in winter. When I asked for an extra blanket or towel, they said they had none, but brought a duvet from another room. The shower has problems too: the handheld head leaked more water than it delivered, unless you wanted to wash your hair and use the color-coded shower tray. There were no shower caps, either. When I asked, they said they didn’t have any, but the manager did get some for me. Breakfast felt incomplete, and since everything was self-service, there was nobody to ask about alternatives or additions. There were single-serve jams but no butter or yogurt, just one cereal option and one type of milk, a liter for six adults and one child among the guests. The fridge in the breakfast room was empty. There was only one kind of tea bag, while the coffee pods were in the room and had to be brought down. Breakfast was in a small room with one communal table, which could get crowded if everyone came at once. There was tap water, a jug of orange juice, bagel biscuits, a tart to share, and a panettone for Christmas, but no fruit. The B&B is charming and very quiet, though there’s plenty to improve, especially for winter stays. I’d say it suits short visits in late spring or early summer better. The location isn’t especially convenient, but can work as a base for excursions. Parking is on a small terrace about a hundred meters away, followed by a short walk. A couple of rooms have street-level access, but one involves going up and down some uneven steps, which won’t suit people with mobility issues or bulky luggage.
