Hotel Zeus Pompei

The staff were super friendly and helpful, and they offered luggage storage if you arrive early. The location is amazing for the ruins, with lots of places to eat and a giant shopping mall within three minutes. We stayed in Villa Diomedi, one of several buildings. It's uphill and about three blocks from the main lobby and breakfast restaurant. The hotel has secure private parking, free during your stay. We were told to park behind a gate in what looked like an abandoned construction site. In the rain, we had to walk through mud to our room. We drove up to unload the suitcases, then had to work out how to get back around the one-way streets to the parking lot. Our rooms were large, functional and complete, and you can prepare food there, but they were outdated and dimly lit, making makeup hard to apply. We liked the very firm beds, and the water pressure was amazing. The building is by the train tracks, so light sleepers should avoid it. I'd chosen this hotel partly because of the breakfast reviews, but was disappointed. It was sliced white bread, two kinds of giant croissants, ham, salami, cheese, a few yogurts, packaged pastries and plain cornflakes, all laid out on trays. Unlimited espressos were the upside. Breakfast isn't the best, but it should get you through to lunch. There are no gluten-free options. Overall, it's great if you just need a place to sleep and shower, and the value is incredible. I just wish they'd do more maintenance and improve breakfast.

The room was simple but clean and comfortable, and the price was good. It's a short walk to the Pompeii ticket gates, so the day visit was easy. Fantastic location.

Hotel Zeus is close to one of the archaeological site's entrance gates and less than a five-minute walk from the main entrance. We heard the queue at the nearby gate is usually shorter, so we went in there. The bags cost 5 euros each to store. We had booked luggage storage online and stopped at the hotel to drop ours off. They put them in a large locker without a key, which made us uneasy, but we got everything back safely. We also learned that this is how they usually store bags. Apparently there's a similar service at the site entrance, but large suitcases won't fit there, so we took precautions ahead of time.

We booked really late that night and went straight to the hotel. The receptionist, Emanuele, was very kind and helpful, quickly arranging a room and giving us tips for the next day's trip. The location and service were excellent, right by both Pompeii park and the train station. Thank you!
