A stay I won’t forget, and not in a good way. At Hotel Majorana Garnì in Rende, I was given a double room in a semi-basement. There was a sliding metal grille at the entrance that had to be moved by hand to get in or out, which made the place feel like a cell. The room seemed smaller than the 14 m² required for a double room under Calabrian regional regulations, and the cramped space felt oppressive and uncomfortable. The pillows and mattresses were poor quality and very uncomfortable, making sleep almost impossible. There was visible dust in the bathroom, which gave the impression of careless cleaning. The check-out charge was the worst part. I left at 11:40 a.m., forty minutes after the 11:00 AM deadline, and was charged a €30 penalty. I understand the stated time, but the amount seemed excessive, especially since the cleaner hadn’t arrived. The receptionist had come to our room shortly before 11:00 AM to ask us to leave, but didn’t mention a penalty. The way it was handled felt improper and unclear, and left me with the impression I’d been cheated. I didn’t take photos because I don’t like criticizing other people’s work and respect the effort that goes into running a business. But when you feel financially cheated, I think it’s only fair to tell others who rely on reviews before booking. The room felt oppressive, the beds were uncomfortable, the cleaning superficial, and the management careless. I wouldn’t recommend it.
