Hotel Umberto

We were told we had booked an economy room, but that doesn't excuse things being broken or missing. The front desk lady was extremely rude and disrespected us by saying that. The AC remote didn't work, and once it was fixed we couldn't adjust the settings. It blew straight at your face, while putting on the cover made the AC think the room was cool enough and stop working. There's no elevator to the 3rd floor, and the toilet had no seat. They brought one, but it didn't fit and broke the first time it was used. The room key looks like it's from the 70s and can open any room in the hotel.

Worst experience. The workers were rude, and this was the second time money was stolen while we were out. The 3rd floor was awful, with no hot water and extreme dirt. The location was far away too.

The room was clean, but unfortunately it was too small and hot. There's no elevator, so getting to the second or third floors with heavy luggage is difficult. The staff were friendly, and breakfast was good, though the menu is strictly fixed. The location is good, only 4km from the beautiful beaches of Tropea and "Costa degli Dei".

We liked the hotel and staff so much that we ate dinner there on three nights. The food was delicious and good value, and breakfast was included and good too. We found the hotel easily, a few minutes' walk through town past restaurants and shops from Santa Domenica train station. We got a room upgrade as soon as we arrived. It was nice, with access to a very large balcony shared with the rooms on either side and views of the sea. We booked at a really good price, and it turned out to be probably the best value hotel we've ever stayed in.
