It was clean and the food was decent, but the hotel itself felt quite dated. After long hikes and nights in mountain huts, I hoped to finally get some rest. That didn’t happen because a dog barked for a few hours in the middle of the night, right below my balcony.

Breakfast was a real treat, especially the big warm croissants, and the staff were very customer-friendly. I spent a great four-day long weekend at Albergo Malga Ciapela. It’s an ideal base for skiing, about a hundred metres from the bottom station of Marmolada. I liked the hotel’s distinctive Rifugio-style feel: the cosy fireplace in the living room, slightly old-school decor, and the quiet evenings were exactly what I wanted. I’d recommend it to ski fans looking for a reasonably priced base. I plan to return next year.

We spent a week here in winter 2018. It’s an older hotel, but the owner was nice and everyone was really helpful. The food was excellent, and the free hotel ski bus in the morning was a great plus.
