The oversized bathroom was the one good thing about our room. We were put in the first underground room, and it was covered in black mold with an odor so awful we couldn't stand to stay inside. I've never encountered anything that bad, even in very old, dusty houses full of mold and old furniture that had been shut up for years. We spoke with the other guests, and they had mold too, though not as badly as we did in the two ground-level rooms. We and the other visitors also waited an hour and 15 minutes for the manager to come open the door and hand over the keys. After we'd already lost much of our vacation time, he said there was a problem with the building's external entrance door and its lock needed replacing. He blamed the building owner for delaying requests. He gave us a key that barely worked, and I could picture us getting locked out at night with no one to let us in. I messaged through booking to request a refund because the unhealthy mold was a serious hygiene issue. We had a long discussion before reaching an agreement for a full refund. He returned the money except for the city tax. He'd said he'd refund that too since we hadn't stayed and he wouldn't need to pay it, but he didn't. I followed up about the tax and got no reply. Fix these terrible rooms and learn how to treat people. Tourists aren't naive anymore, and people stand up for their rights and standards.
