Albani Hotel Roma

The bathroom door had no lock, and the supposed air-conditioning only heated the room. For the price, that was very disappointing. We were meant to get two single beds and a double, but instead got two singles pushed together, another single, and a sofa bed. The room looked nothing like the website pictures. Don’t be fooled by the website.

The rooms are pretty good, and the reception staff are very nice. Breakfast was a disappointment, though. There wasn’t much on offer, no yogurt, and eggs were only available some days. When they did have them, they were egg beaters, not real eggs.

The hotel feels tired, isn’t good value, and isn’t quiet. The walls are thin, so you hear everyone, and lots of group tours stay there. It’s a 30-60 minute walk to Rome’s attractions, so the location isn’t close to the center. The bar staff member was grumpy and couldn’t be bothered to serve, mumbling or grumbling to himself and using his phone. Staff only respond happily to Italian, so brush up. Book tourist spots well in advance, since there were still long queues in September.

The location isn’t central, even though public transport connections are good. Expect at least a 30-minute walk to the popular attractions. The hotel is huge, with spacious rooms and open areas. Our room was clean, modern, and quiet, with a comfortable bed and complimentary water when we arrived. The bathroom had a large bath, and I enjoyed a relaxing soak. Breakfast was included, delicious, and varied, with lots of savory and sweet options. The buffet opened at 6:30 a.m., so we could enjoy it even on our last day.
