Albergo Ottocento

The only real downside was how little sound insulation there is between rooms. We could hear the neighbors snoring, and conversations came through very clearly. Bring earplugs. Ours were fairly quiet: we heard them talking the first evening, then they stayed calm for the rest of our three-night visit. Our room faced a small, quiet street, and the well-insulated windows with wooden shutters blocked outside noise effectively. Breakfast had a decent variety and was good quality, although mostly the same each day. The toaster was slow and could only handle four slices at once. The bed was very comfortable, the pillows were excellent, and the bathroom was functional with a good shower. Staff were welcoming and gave us helpful restaurant recommendations. It's a good hotel with charming, typically Italian decor in an excellent location near the historic center and just steps from a metro station. We never needed the metro, since everything was walkable, including the Colosseum at about a 25-minute walk.

We came across Albergo Ottocento near Piazza Barberini through Rick Steve’s travelers' recommendation for Rome. The staff were wonderful and friendly, and we were lucky to check in when we arrived after our cruise. Breakfast was delightful, with eggs, assorted pastries, meat, cheese, and more. After walking around Rome, we really enjoyed unwinding at the hotel's rooftop restaurant and bar. You can't go wrong with this hotel recommended by the Rick Steve’s group.

A proper boutique hotel, and we had a great time staying at Albergo Ottocento. The rooms were on the small side, but that didn't bother us since we were only there to sleep. You can walk to the Spanish Steps and The Trevi Fountain, and the metro is right across the street, so getting around is quick and simple. We'll stay here again when we return to Rome.

We had to cancel our holiday because of the situation in the Middle East. I know we booked a non-refundable room, but hoped they'd consider a refund minus one night's cost given the circumstances. We gave more than a month's notice. The reservation now seems to have been cancelled, since I can no longer access it, but I've been waiting over two weeks for a response to my email. It's disappointing that they haven't replied.
