Amelie Suite Trevi

The location near the Trevi Fountain was easily the best thing about Amelie Suites Trevi. But even that couldn’t make up for the problems with cleanliness, upkeep, comfort, hospitality, and communication. We had much better stays in Paris and Lisbon, and although we love Rome and came back to the city, we wouldn’t stay here again. It fell short of the basic standard its presentation led us to expect. We booked directly because the place looked charming and well located, and seemed to offer a boutique hotel stay. In practice, it was a set of rooms for rent, with no reception or staff on site and all communication handled remotely. We repeatedly saw confused travelers outside, unsure they were at the right address or how to check in. That wasn’t a great start. Our room had ants or other insects, stained, dirty bedding, and old towels with holes. The toilet seat broke twice. The sink drained badly, and the tiny shower leaked; its controls were so stiff they were hard to turn. After maintenance came in, they left the room untidy instead of as they’d found it. The safe didn’t work, and there wasn’t enough room for our luggage. The small balcony looked appealing in the photos, but a step, no furniture, and a view over a dirty, unpleasant little parking lot made it hard to enjoy. A government building stood directly across from us, with employees able to see into the room. Cigarette smoke came in from neighboring balconies, and pigeons and their droppings covered the balcony. We’d specifically checked before booking that a late afternoon checkout was possible and chose an early evening flight. Yet the night before leaving, when we messaged the WhatsApp representative to ask where to leave the keys, we were told checkout was strictly at 10:00 a.m. The information had been inconsistent, and we were caught off guard. On departure morning, a man who said he was the cleaner waited in the hallway outside our room for over two hours before checkout. We understand rooms need to be prepared for incoming guests, but having him there for so long felt intrusive and put unnecessary pressure on what should have been a relaxed departure. We also found the car service quite unprofessional.

A splendid suite with a peaceful view behind the Trevi Fountain. Parking is 300 meters away.

We really enjoyed our stay in this great apartment. The location is perfect, and the service was friendly. Highly recommend!
