Antico Acquedotto Hotel

The room was small, which I could have accepted, but I paid for a double or twin and got a single instead. Staff were hard to understand and seemed a bit rude when I asked basic questions. Public transport is nearby, though getting to anything interesting can take as long as 45 minutes. The hotel was cheap, so I guess you get what you pay for. There was litter around the building and on the streets, maybe because of the neighborhood. Clean streets seemed uncommon outside the tourist areas.

We were just under a ten-minute walk from the metro, with some lovely restaurants and bars nearby and a welcome break from central Rome's tourist crowds. The staff were absolutely lovely, and breakfast on the terrace came with beautiful views. There was juice, pastries, cereal, toast, and really tasty coffee from the machine. Our room was quaint, with clean sheets and a clean shower, and the AC was easy to use. There’s a lobby vending machine, but it only takes euros. A lovely affordable place if you want to stay away from the bustle and find some local gems.

The view might have been decent, but green metal shades covered the windows. I also found very long hairs in my bed, even though I'm a short-haired man, despite the room looking clean at first. The beds felt old, and I could feel the springs whenever I lay on my side. Hot water ran out after about five minutes, apparently because every room has a tiny tank. The neighborhood didn't seem very safe to me, and the showers would be too small if you're plus-sized or over six feet tall. For what we paid for a three-star place, I wouldn't recommend it, especially for a stay longer than two nights.

The breakfast was the biggest letdown. There were no eggs, olives, or fruit, and the only cheese was processed slices in individual wrappers. I wasn't expecting that from a three-star hotel. The room itself was drab, with dark colors, metal covers down over the balcony doors, and no sign explaining them. I wondered if they were for theft prevention. The bed was very basic, though I did sleep well, probably because my long walks left me exhausted. There were loud bangs from the corridor and through the wall, and the little fridge buzzed and crackled all night. I was also told about the €6 daily tourist tax only when I arrived, which should have been made clearer.
