B&B La Maison de Jo

We booked this hotel for our Rome trip a month and a half ahead. Then, four days before our flight, I got an email saying they couldn't accept my card and would cancel the reservation. I tried reaching the hotel, but for more than 24 hours we were left on read.

We stayed here in November 2025. The location was handy for getting into Rome Center: bus no.8 nearby goes to Piazza Venezia, and from there you can walk to some famous sights. If you're up for long walks, you can see most of Rome's attractions from that Piazza. With a rental car, though, don't count on finding free street parking. We had to expect to pay 20 euros a day at a nearby underground lot. The bedding and towels were the main disappointment. The towels were so worn and old that I'd use them as rags at home. The sheets had clearly been used a lot. They were clean, but didn't feel new, which left us with questions. The bed also creaked when you sat down or turned over at night. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but I think other vacationers would want to know before choosing this rental. And don't expect the warm welcome you might get at a typical B&B.

A week before our October 4th to 8th stay, we were emailed that the hotel was having trouble processing payment. I tried three different cards through booking.com and called the hotel six times. Someone answered once, said they were dealing with other issues, and asked me to call again. The other calls went unanswered, and nobody called back. I tried to book again, but the room was no longer available. We had to find somewhere else just three days before arriving and paid astronomical last-minute prices in Rome. We're on a five-week trip, and our cards worked without any problem with every other hotel, rental car company, train, and airline. The hotel never contacted me directly or returned my calls to sort it out. They just cancelled, and it cost us a lot of unexpected extra money.

The manager handled a payment problem with a third-party booking service kindly and professionally, which we really appreciated. We spent a few days here last summer and had a fantastic stay. Our room was comfortable and clean, the host made us feel welcome, and the breakfast choices were amazing. We’d happily recommend this place for its wonderful hospitality.
