BB La Scalinatella Roma

The history is part of the appeal here, from the building and furniture to the lovely books on the shelves. It has a beautiful vintage feel. The building is old, on the second floor, and has no elevator or AC, which is normal for historic buildings where the structure and facade can’t be changed. Inside it’s clean, with good cross-ventilation, and the host is polite and helpful. The room was spacious, with a standing fan and a very comfortable bed. I slept deeply, and it wasn’t too hot for us thanks to the airflow. The bathroom was nice and clean, with the towels, shampoo, and other things we needed. We also appreciated the little touches: the host cleaned our room and kept fresh water in the fridge. The location is great, with restaurants and shops on the street. It’s a 10-minute walk to the Colosseum, and we walked to the city centre every day, about 25 minutes, which was totally worth it. Breakfast was simple but good, with toast, butter, prosciutto cotto, and delicious cheese. We asked for tomatoes and the host was happy to bring some. For Rome, the price is a bargain. If you want an elevator, AC, and a modern place, you’ll pay about double at a hotel. Staying here means you really feel the history. P.S. The dog is lovely and playful.

The building is very old, and there’s no air conditioning, so this wasn’t a comfortable room for us. Breakfast was so-so. Paying the city tax in cash was fine, but when we checked out, we were told there was no change. Come on!

The location is great, and the B&B was clean. It was okay, though not up to a high standard. If you have a big suitcase, be ready for lots of stairs since there’s no lift.

A lovely B&B in a perfect spot, and the host was wonderful. I’d definitely recommend it.
