Caligola Resort

The boss is a crook. I had already paid for the balcony reservation, but was still made to pay for it again.

The owner was friendly and helpful, which earned this place an extra star from me. It's a small guesthouse on the first floor of a lovely building in the heart of Trastevere, on a quiet street with restaurants and bars nearby. Testaccio is just steps away, with even more to offer. My double room was spacious and clean, with a decent-sized bathroom, TV, minibar, and air conditioning. The furnished balcony was comfortable and a real bonus. Breakfast was included and had a good variety.

We booked this guesthouse through Groupon and were happy with what we got for the price. For an extra €10 per day, we upgraded to a nice balcony with a table. The owner was friendly, and both breakfast and cleanliness were okay. The location worked really well for seeing Rome on foot over two days, without using a car. We found parking close to the hotel in the evenings, left the car there, and didn't need it for the rest of our stay. The tram is close by, too, if walking is difficult. For cheap Chinese food instead of a tourist trap, there's an inexpensive restaurant on the main street near the tram stop by the hotel, though I can't remember its name. A few meters away is "Orange," ranked 270th out of Rome's 9,800 restaurants. It was very clean and friendly, with good food at a reasonable price. Maybe try a Bombino if you'd like a glass of white wine, it's excellent.

The beds were comfortable and the rooms were lovely. This Bed and Breakfast is right in the heart of Trastevere, and service, hospitality, and kindness are clearly its main principles. Definitely worth a visit.
