Mercato Trionfale is close by, which gave us a chance to shop for fresh local produce, watch everyday Roman life, and meet local residents. The Vatican is also easy to reach: about an eight-minute walk to the Vatican Museums and around fifteen minutes to the Bronze Gate of St. Peter’s Basilica. That worked especially well for our Jubilee pilgrimage stay last December, and for early Vatican visits and Christmas or Jubilee activities. There are only three rooms, so the place feels quiet and private. We had a large window facing Via Andrea Doria, with natural light and a view of a little of the daily life outside. Our room was spacious, fully furnished, thoughtfully arranged, and well kept. It felt more like staying in a family home over the holidays than in ordinary accommodation, and was a calm, comfortable place to come back to after long walks and pilgrimage days. You can drink the tap water safely, which was convenient and better for the environment. A shared mini pantry just outside the room has a capsule coffee machine, tea, and a place to wash dishes. Luca, the owner and keeper, was kind, attentive, and insightful from the start. He helped with practical things and shared thoughtful local perspectives, which made us feel welcome. Camere del Camerlengo felt like a carefully looked after home base, with a personal connection and quiet comfort in a meaningful part of Rome.
