The best part of my week is usually getting my hair cut by Janelle. She listens closely, gives me a great cut every time, and clearly knows her craft. She's also warm and lovely to talk to. I've tried several salons around Portland and the pearl, but Coda feels like its own little peaceful spot. Even the small touches stand out, like the tree above you while you get your shampoo by the skylight window. The space itself is elegant but still relaxed, set in a gorgeous old top-floor Brooklyn-style loft with original woodwork, high windows, a skylight, and a lovely cafe at street level. It's tucked away in the heart of the pearl district. If you want a really good haircut, book with Janelle.
Valentina and her staff made everything easy, from arranging transport and tours to helping with anything else we needed. The hotel's also in a great spot, about a 20-minute walk in either direction to the Vatican and the Colosseum. We just got home and already both want to come back. It was a beautiful hotel and a wonderful stay. We'll definitely stay here again. Can't wait to see you all.
The rooms are on the cozy, slightly small side, but they're comfortable. This beautiful hotel is in a quiet piazza with three great restaurants right across the street. Campo de' Fiori, with its market and more places to eat, is about 200 feet around the corner. Several Rome landmarks are within walking distance.
The staff were great about suggesting places to eat, pointing us around, and calling cabs. We spent two nights here before a cruise, and found the location convenient, roughly a 20-25 minute walk to most places or a short cab ride. Our reserved balcony room had to be changed because of renovations, and we also missed out on having wine on the rooftop. It was the quiet season, so I understand, though I was still disappointed.
The only drawback was the small lift. Otherwise, the rooms were beautifully furnished in an elegant style with a touch of the #belleepoque, and the bathrooms were thoughtfully laid out. The staff were wonderfully accommodating and knew their stuff. A classic Roman feel on a busy square, with a handy base for visiting the city's tourist spots.
