Daplace - Arena House

There was no electricity, so we had no internet, lights, or water, and it was 37 degrees with mosquitoes everywhere. They left a note and ran off. There’s been no refund and no response, and they aren’t even answering Ota's calls. I’m still waiting to get my money back. The service and response have been terrible. Nothing works, and the manager treated me poorly. I’ve never dealt with anyone more unprofessional.

The area felt very safe, and the check-in instructions and codes were communicated clearly. There’s no staffed front desk, so you need to call the numbers they provide if you need anything, but we never did. I actually liked having our own keys to come and go. The rooms were cleaned daily and the bed was very comfortable. It’s also close to the Colosseum and forum, and the best gelato and pizza we tried were just down the street. We loved our stay.

You can reach the Colosseum in a five- or ten-minute walk, and the location is hard to beat. The service was great too. There’s no receptionist at a front desk, but they replied instantly on WhatsApp and looked after us well. The room was nice, cleaned daily, and felt secure and safe. I’d be happy to come back.

We stayed two nights and didn’t have any major issues, but the room was pretty bare and didn’t look like the pictures. Two single beds had been pushed together as a double, and they kept sliding apart, leaving a gap we fell into at night. It wasn’t a huge problem. The staff seemed nice, though they were awkward with us on the last morning. We had to leave by 10am, which we hadn’t known, but we packed early and were ready on time. Our train was at 1pm, and we asked them to book a taxi for 11.45am. They said they’d only book one in the next two minutes, otherwise we’d have to walk. The station was 40 minutes away on foot with our suitcases, and I had a sprained ankle. We explained that, but they wouldn’t budge. In the end they booked a taxi for 10am, which took no effort, leaving us at the station 2.5 hours early with our luggage. Breakfast was bland, the shower didn’t work properly and wouldn’t stay upright, and there’s only a small lift, with no accessible stairs. The locals were rude to us as British tourists too. Workers in nearby restaurants and at the Colosseum bumped into us, ignored us, and muttered about us in Italian. A local pizza shop served two Italian families who arrived after us, even though we’d already waited 15 minutes, so we left.
