Cervia - The Hostel

For the price, especially compared with what other places charge, it was great. The room I had was big and clean, and the receptionist was friendly and let me check in early. There’s a shared bathroom on the floor, so keep in mind this is a no-frills hotel. I’d been nervous after reading the reviews, but everything was fine. They’d just installed a new elevator, which was nice, and nobody asked me to hand in my key when I went out, as another reviewer had claimed.

The bathrooms were the worst part of our stay. They were extremely dirty, and some had visible mold. We spent four days there, and the same disposable razor sat in the shower the whole time. Our room window wouldn’t close properly, even after I asked the staff about it, so we heard every bit of the street partying that went on until 3 am. The hotel is near the train station and Metro, and the staff were very friendly, but those were the only positives. Even for the price, I found the hotel awful and wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re comfortable with what I’ve described or what’s in the other reviews.

Termini and the Metro are close by, which was the only good thing about the location. The rest of the hotel was filthy, and I felt gross and uncomfortable throughout my stay. The sheets were full of mold, the floor was sticky, there was hair in the shower and bed, the toilet was dirty, and the walls had dirty marks. Cleaning seemed to mean little more than making the bed. My friend also had newly bought jewelry worth over €100 stolen by the cleaning staff. Breakfast was fine, but the elevator didn’t work, and walking up to the second floor was especially hard since I was sick. It was awful. Don’t stay here.

The location was the one saving grace. It was easy to get places, and there was always someone at reception, so arrival times weren’t an issue. Otherwise, never again. The bathroom was so dirty we couldn’t use the shower. The tiles had black fungus and the shower floor was always brown. There was no soap in the toilets, so we had to go back to our room to wash our hands. Our room was dirty too. When we moved the beds together, we found an old used earplug from another guest and lots of dirt underneath, and the bedsheets had stains. They supposedly clean every day, but it seemed like they only made the bed and dusted superficially. For the price, you could find somewhere better if you book ahead. We only chose this place because it was the only one available at short notice. No wonder.
