Gasometer Urban Suites

I got into the city in the morning and called to ask about checking in early. They said, “of course!” and let me in four hours ahead of time. The aparthotel has a modern, nice design, the rooms are fairly spacious and very clean, and the staff are really friendly.

The price wasn't justified by our four-night stay. My husband, daughter, and I found the place really disappointing. There were hardly any amenities: no bar soap, no separate body wash, just a shampoo and body foam combo, and no wash rags. They also charged €15 a day to use the kitchenette. The worst part was someone getting into our room. One morning I was scrolling on IG while my husband and daughter were still asleep, when I heard the lock turn. A hand pushed our stroller, which was right across the doorway, and then a random man walked in. I was startled. He looked at me, said “sorry,” and quickly left. The bed is positioned so anyone entering can easily see you. I woke my husband and went straight to the front desk. After I explained what happened, the attendant said he had no idea who it might have been and asked if I was sure we'd closed the door the night before. I told him I heard the key work, the handle go down, and the door open. It couldn't have been cleaning staff, since when we looked out there was no man or cleaning trolley. The attendant then said, “yeh I guess it was one of our employees since they had a key.” He seemed completely unconcerned, like he didn't have time for it. He said he'd make some calls to find out, but never did. I kept wondering if they'd take it more seriously if another guest, who didn't look like me, reported it. There was no explanation afterward, just a shrug, as if it were an ordinary day. I was really scared. I'm six months pregnant and our daughter is only one. What if my husband hadn't been there? What if we hadn't been dressed? I felt completely defenseless and couldn't stop thinking about all the possibilities. I contacted Expedia to report what happened, but they didn't help either. They said they'd contacted the “hotel” and got nowhere. Shame on this place. Trust me, go somewhere else.

I liked the photos enough to ask my boyfriend to cancel our previous accommodation and book this place instead. Unfortunately, he chose the non-refundable option. Then I got sick and couldn't travel to Europe at all. I explained what happened to the property and the manager, but they wouldn't refund us or offer any compensation. I was honestly really disappointed. A little more understanding and kindness in those circumstances would have meant a lot.

The food was delicious, and the hotel and staff were wonderful. Everything was very clean, and the service was excellent.
