For our three-day Rome stay this January, this was a great hotel choice. My husband and I love walking when we travel, and the location was ideal: right beside Piazza Navona, a few minutes on foot from the other main sights, and about 20 minutes from Vatican City. We really enjoyed being able to get around that way. The place was very clean and neat, and the service was great. One day we came back early, around 6pm, to freshen up, and one of the lovely women who work there brought us Prosecco and chips for aperitivo. That's included every day, as much as you want, but we were usually out, so we only got to enjoy it once.

Marzia owns Campo Marzio too, where I’ve stayed, and the people here really care. Sara at the front desk is lovely and gave us great advice on places to go, along with maps. The room had huge vaulted ceilings and a hot shower with good pressure, which I don’t often find in this city. Gens Luxury Suites is right by Piazza Navonna and a taxi stand, which came in handy. It’s in an old building with a tiny elevator, and the place feels like more than a B&B but not quite a hotel. If you’re after a doorman and 24-hour room service, this isn’t it. For a lovely little boutique stay in a fantastic spot, I loved it.

Sara and Cristina at the front desk were attentive and knew their stuff. It made a real difference being able to call or email them for help. There are restaurants at a range of prices all around, and the taxi queue starts just around the corner. Roma Termini is a quick ride away, while Piazza Navona is practically at the door. You can walk to the Vatican, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Spagna, Via Del Corso, and the Ancient Ruins from here. The hotel is on the third level of a restored building, which is the fourth floor by US numbering. There’s a refurbished old-style elevator to take you up, and the stairs are easy enough going down. The entrance doesn’t have a large sign, so look for the doorbell panel for #20 Via Zanardelli.

The location was good, and some of the staff were friendly, though others were pretty perfunctory. Our room was decent and had most of what was promised, but the luxury has worn off and the place needs refurbishment. We had no WiFi for five days. They said it would be fixed on the day we left, though we suspected that was spin and that their WiFi service was just bad. Unfortunately, we're unlikely to return.

The closet fell over as soon as I shut its door, and the staff handled the problem badly. We left early so the rest of our vacation wouldn't be spoiled. The service was terrible, the room smaller than expected, breakfast poor, and there was no WiFi for the whole stay.
