Girasole Guesthouse & Breakfast

The room had air conditioning and had been refurbished recently. The bed seemed a bit old, but the topper made it comfortable. Getting through the big wooden door to find the place was a little tricky, and the skinny elevator was a fun ride. The owner was very friendly and happy to help, including with tourist guide questions. For the price, it’s a good stay if you book one of the suite rooms, which are like standard rooms elsewhere. A warning about booking: the owner’s cheaper rooms on booking sites are marked up, so book the suites directly through his website.

The rooms were airy, clean and nicely made up, and the shower room was nice. But the walls were so thin that we could hear the guest across the corridor talking on his phone well past midnight, then his alarm went off early and he left it ringing for 40 minutes. Street noise came through the poor glazing too, including police sirens for two nights. We didn’t sleep well either night. We’d booked because twin rooms were advertised, since most places only have doubles, but were told on the day that none were available. We were “upgraded” to the Girasole suites instead of the Girasole guesthouse, but as a mother and adult daughter we had to share a bed. The bed wasn’t very comfortable, and the change also meant we lost the breakfast we’d expected, so we had to go out and buy things for the morning. As solo female travellers, we didn’t feel especially at ease in the area. At night we had to step over people sleeping rough in the apartments’ doorway, and we were often asked for spare change. The host was friendly and the price was good, but we wouldn’t return. Sorry.

Leandro was so friendly and helpful with whatever we needed. We were two girls travelling on our own and felt really safe here, and the location was super convenient with amazing restaurants nearby. Would recommend! 😊😊😊

The location was a big plus, with the metro to all the attractions just 2 minutes away. Everyone was polite, and housekeeping quietly cleaned and tidied our room each day. The rooms were beautiful and spotless, with lots of space for our things and huge double beds. Best sleep I’ve had in ages, and the most beautiful B&B I’ve stayed in!
