Hotel 55 Fifty-Five

We barely had to travel anywhere to find things to do. The Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, restaurants, and plenty of fancy shops were all close by. The rooms were modern, clean, and nice, and breakfast was free. It's a small hotel, but I really couldn't find anything to complain about.

The location made it easy to get around to Rome's main sights. The room arrangement, though, was very different from what the booking apps showed. When we arrived, we were taken to another building with no elevator, and the rooms there were really small.

Getting any sleep was difficult because we could hear people walking around in the room above us. There was no air conditioning, and changing rooms didn't help because the second one was just as hot. I also had to pay an extra €200 to stay in the main building. They had planned to put me in an annex, which seemed even worse. The elevator was so small my wife and I barely fit with our luggage. I wouldn't recommend booking here, and I won't return.

I raised the problems with the front desk twice and asked to speak to the manager. They said she wouldn't be available until the next day, when I was checking out, and none of it was properly dealt with during my stay. There was just one elevator for the property, and staff used it often. I waited as long as 20 minutes to go up or down. The room itself was in awful shape: blood on the inside pillows, peeling and chipped ceiling paint, torn towels, damaged bathroom flooring, and a broken glass shelf in the shower. The floor towels were ripped too, as shown in the picture. It felt poorly maintained and unsanitary. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.
