Hotel Dei Consoli Depandance

It was a joy to find a hotel that still feels Italian and keeps its classic character in the details. So many places renovate into that tacky business-modern-minimalist-IKEA look, and I hope this one values timelessness over trends. If it ever gives up its cultural integrity, that would be a real shame. The only change I'd make is removing the carpet and bringing back the original stone or tile. Everything else should stay as it is.

The hotel is conveniently close to the Vatican, and the staff were helpful. They even helped us with our luggage when the elevator wasn't working. The room was small and dated, though it had a nice terrace. Its door didn't close properly, so outside noise came in, and there was a smell in the room or bedding. The advertised outdoor area wasn't accessible during the day except at breakfast. If you're planning to queue early at the Basilica, you won't have time to eat at the hotel, so there's no reason to include breakfast in your daily rate.

The hotel is walkable to most monuments, with shops and good restaurants all around. From the open terrace at the top, you can see Saint Peter's Basilica, and breakfast offered a great range of choices. The entrance and lobby are beautiful. Our room was basic, but very clean and comfortable for its size, and the staff were friendly and cordial. A great place if you want to stay close to most of Rome's historic sites.

We stayed for 6 nights and found it peaceful, with a great location and a lovely terrace for breakfast. The whole staff were helpful, especially the gentlemen at reception. Housekeeping came every day and left our room clean and tidy. The location and safety felt perfect. I'd definitely return on another visit to Rome.
