The staff and owner were very nice and respectful. Although we arrived outside check-in hours, someone cleaning let us into the room, and we came back later to check in properly. They gave us a map and helped us get transportation into the city. The private parking is gated, and there are steep stairs that make a shortcut. The room itself was a huge letdown, and we left the same day to book another hotel. The suite, the most expensive room in the building, looked great in the photos, with Roman-style stone-brick ceilings and no visible damage. In person, the ceiling looked like it was held up with glue. The room was in the basement, with tiny windows, broken and gross furniture, holes in the walls, and very dirty-looking floors. What looked like scraped-off mold remained on the ceiling, and it didn't feel clean. The spa area wasn't maintained either. The lights in the shower and sauna didn't work, the knobs for turning the spa on were broken or missing, and the jacuzzi tub hadn't been cleaned properly. When I started the jets, the smell was putrid. I had to fill and run it twice before it was fine. The room was way overpriced, and the photos are deceptive and need updating. The drive there was certainly intriguing, and the area wasn't the cleanest, though most of Rome's outskirts aren't as clean as people might expect.

The beds were a little small, but still okay. The hotel was very clean, the staff friendly, and breakfast good. Trains, trams, and buses get you to the heart of Rome in about 20 minutes, and there's a direct train to and from the airport.

The staff were great, very friendly and open to questions. We didn't have a fridge or iron in the room, but after we asked, both were brought quickly. The rooms are nice and have AC, and the beds were really comfortable. For Rome, this is one of the more affordable choices, and the price felt fair for the experience. The airport is about 30 minutes away on a direct train, which costs around 8 EUR. Public transport also makes the historical sights easy to reach. I used the TicketAppy app to buy tickets, a small tip since it took me ages to find it. The stairs leading to the hotel aren't great, but there's another route that adds only five minutes, or you can take a taxi.

The room stayed comfortable even when it was 38C outside, thanks to good temperature control. It was about 3 km from the city. The rooms were spacious and the bathroom was in great condition. Breakfast servings weren't very big, though I guess that depends on how hungry you are. The double bed was just two singles pushed together.

If you're looking for somewhere quiet to stay, read, or write, IL Villione is a lovely villa-style hotel with nice rooms. But the location isn't convenient for active, curious travelers. Trastevere station is walkable, though getting there means climbing steep steps. The next day we called a cab, and the driver couldn't find the place.
