Hotel Milton Roma

We arrived around 4 PM after a four-hour train ride and were told our two Agoda rooms had been canceled, even though we had confirmation emails and had never received any cancellation message. The concierge asked if we had seen “the email” from the hotel, which was the first we knew there was a problem. We were left to find somewhere else with very little notice and few options. The manager stayed in his office while the staff tried to handle it, and when he eventually spoke to us, he said the hotel was sold out and had oversold. Yet Agoda still showed double rooms for over $7,000 while we were standing there. When we asked why rooms appeared available, the desk staff replied, “That's just for me to know.” It looked to us as if confirmed bookings at regular prices were being canceled so rooms could be relisted for far more, taking advantage of travelers with few nearby choices. They wouldn't help us find alternative accommodation, leaving us stranded late in the day in a foreign country. It took over two hours to find another hotel, and we spent more than 50 euros on taxis sorting out a situation caused by their incompetence and greed. The management and desk service were predatory and awful. Completely unacceptable, one of our worst hotel experiences. Save your money for somewhere that values its guests.

Arriving at 2 AM and finding out we'd been upgraded for free was a wonderful surprise. I'd asked for a twin bed upgrade because it mattered a lot to us, and that gesture really saved our night. The staff were thoughtful about our vegan and vegetarian preferences, too. Once I told them, they went out of their way to make vegan desserts just for us. It felt like such a warm welcome, and I’m sincerely grateful for the care we received.

The room got uncomfortably hot because the air conditioning wasn't working. A staff member came to check and confirmed both the fault and the temperature, but my request to change rooms or get a refund was turned down. They offered only a fan and an open window. Very disappointing, and not the service I'd expect from a hotel.

The quick repair during our stay really impressed us. We needed the toilet fixed, and the staff responded and got it sorted remarkably fast. They were also friendly and very polite, so we'd definitely recommend the hotel. It's in a great spot, about a 15-minute walk from the Colosseum and right by metro, bus, and tram stops. The price was very reasonable for the season, and breakfast was tasty with a good range of choices, not too little or too much.
