Nord Nuova Roma Hotel

For me it's really a five-star spot, but I knocked one off for people with stricter expectations. The rooms are a good size for Europe, housekeeping was adequate, and the breakfast bar is an amazing $10 for more than enough options. The hotel itself may feel a bit Spartan: the TV is very small, and there's no conditioner, tissues, hand lotion, or free bottled water. The location is excellent for getting around. It's close to the main train station and stop #1 for the city bus tours, including hop-on, hop-off and night tours. Nearby are the Piazza dela Libertad and Santa Maria Majore, the most important basilica in the ancient part of the city within the Tiber curve. St. Peter's is outside that area. The largest and best preserved Roman baths are close too, though calling them just baths is a misnomer since they also had gyms, libraries, and other facilities. The Colosseum is a 15-minute walk away.

The hallways looked like they hadn't been painted or updated in 20-25 years, and the neighborhood felt dangerous and unpleasant. The website says the walls are soundproof, but they definitely weren't, and it was loud all night. The room wasn't clean: walking barefoot or in socks left dirt on us. The sheets barely passed for sheets, the blanket looked tattered and more than 15 years old, and the sink and toilet may or may not work. We asked to move rooms or cancel the second night, but they said they couldn't do either because there was no manager “on site.” We left and stayed somewhere else for our second night in Rome, which was much more enjoyable. They told us to email “management” about a refund, then sent a lengthy reply saying they couldn't do anything. I've stayed in cheaper, nicer hostels. I'd avoid this place at all costs.

The rooftop bar has a lovely atmosphere, romantic but relaxed enough to laugh as loudly as you like. The receptionists are such lovely, welcoming gentlemen, and the location is perfect. I had the best hotel breakfast I've ever had here. I love this place and never want to leave ❤️❤️❤️

It's in a really good spot near Roma termini and plenty of restaurants, with the main sights about a 15-20 minute walk away. Service was good. Breakfast was just okay, though not bad for 10 euros per person. Special mention to the older man who handles room service at night. He was incredibly friendly and helpful, and I only wish I'd gotten his name.
